My family name is Kirkland. We came from Oneida Co. and started with Henry Francis Aaron Kirkland. You can find him in the Whitestown area. His son, John is also listed. The family members still living in their 80's tell me the town of Kirkland was started by my relatives. Interesting, but have not found the proof yet.

My uncle owned a farm directly across from Baron Von Steuben's cabin and burial ground until he died.I believe it was part of Remsen, NY called Steuben Corners. I remember going there to see the cabin. It was so very small and basic, considering what a hero he was to us. George Washington may well have lost the war without the Baron training our troops into some sort of army.

You may e-mail me at < randlskinner@aol.com > if you wish.

The whole of NYS was such a rich historical area to grow up in. It instilled deep in me a great love of history. The Baron was given many thousand acres of the area for payment of services. He in turn tried to get his men to settle there and develope towns. This is how my Kirklands came to settle there. They served in Rev.War. and were given rental land to farm.
