Genealogy Lookup Taylor E. Preston 1834
Posted by: Lee Preston (ID *****8098) Date: January 24, 2004 at 16:06:50

I am looking for the ancestors of Taylor Ebenezer Preston. Specifically, I am looking for parents or siblings of Taylor. I would like to have a search of Baptism records, Court House documents, if available a Town Census, or any other records to try to determine Taylorís Parents and/or siblings.

According to the Veterans Administration and Military Records from the National Archives, Taylor was born about 1834 in New York supposedly in Dudway. I think they meant Dugway NY. The "d" should have been a "g". When looking at the Oneida Genealogy website in the book "Pioneer History of Camden, N.Y" I saw the name of Taylor Preston on page 100. The book puts a Taylor Preston in Camden New York roughly about the time I would expect Taylor to be growing up as a child.

Camden is in Oneida County and Dugway is in Oswego County. There is but 20 miles distance between the two towns. If my Taylor Preston and the Taylor Preston in Camden are one in the same, this would seam plausible.

Taylor grew up in New York. He possibly moved back and forth from NY and Canada (a theory currently that has not been proved). As a young adult, he probably moved to Wisconsin prior to 1857. He married in Wisconsin in 1857 and had one surviving child born in 1860. Taylor died young from injuries suffered in the Civil War in 1864.

There seems to be plenty of Preston families in Camden , some of them are related to each other and some are not at all closely related so it isn't possible to pick out Taylor's family with any certainty. Some have reason to believe that Taylor was a brother to Ellen and George and that the mother was the teacher Sarah (Smith). Additionally, the father might have been William R. Preston. This theory currently not proved.

Does anyone have any information pertaining to a Taylor Preston or able to do some lookups? Thank You. Lee Preston.
