My Thomas Wheeler Daniels enlisted in Company H, 126th Illinois Volunteer Infantry in 1862, with his residence shown as Coal Valley, which is in Rock Island County. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Griffith (raised by her uncle Edward? Evans) on April 9, 1968 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. He was in Illinois in 1869 for the birth of his daughter Mary. Subsequent children (William, Robert, Harry, Clyde, Philip Yoy, Ralph & Wyatt Ivyl) were born in Kansas and Iowa. The family later moved to Washington State.

I have no record of Thomas Wheeler Daniels prior to his enlistment in the army. (He also served a 3-month term with Co D, 12th Illinois Infantry.) He was born in New York, September 12, 1841, either in Utica or Oswego. I believe his parents were born in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, respectively. Family oral history says his mother's maiden name was Wheeler.

Census records in Iowa show a Chris & Emily Wheeler, from New York & Connecticut, and a Margaret Wheeler, living near the Daniels family. Also a possible brother to Thomas, Joseph/Josiah, born in New York, living nearby. I do not know who Thomas' parents were.

Does any of this ring a bell with anyone??? Any leads at all would be appreciated!

Thank you very much!
