Question - Archived NY Newspapers (1915 - 1922)

In many states the newspapers are on line thru the local libraries or thru the historical societies. Here in Oklahoma the largest of newspapers can be accessed online thru the local library (or your home computer with your library card #) and at the State Historical Society. These go back to 1900 up to the present. TX, KS, CO and a few other states have a similar setup. You plug in a search term (or name) and it will give you the dates/pages where that search term appears.

My question is this - does NY have a similar system?

I am researching Ruby Darby, a blues singer/vaudeville performer who made her way to New York City during the time frame 1915 - 1922 and did do some auditions for theatrical agents. She was quite well known in the southwestern part of the US. She co-authored a couple of songs with W. C. Handy.

I have located one newspaper ad where she appeared in Baltimore, MD in Feb. 1922.

I would like to verify whether she appeared at any theaters in NY during the time (1915 - 1922) she was in NY. In that time frame most theaters would run ads in the newspapers.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated
