My grandfather - James McCarthy - left Ireland in that timeframe and had a son Michael b 1866 in Phelps, NY. They later moved to Kansas to work on the railroad in the 1880s...is there any correlation to your research? boys were michael, James b 1896, peter b 1873, patrick b 1877 and John R b 1882.
