thanks for your response! My ancestor, James Kane was born in 1822 in Ireland. He arrived in either Canada or NY on a "coffin ship" according to family lore. In the NY census of 1860, he was a "huckster" peddling goods on the street. His children were Lawrence, Edward (my ancestor), John, James, Charles and Michael. We don't know the name of his wife. I know this isn't alot to go on. It is possible he came from Londonderry, but who knows?
