Lee,

I definitely could not find a Springwell, New York in French's NY State Gazetteer, nor in any Heritage Quest books, etc., etc.

In Erie County, NY there is a Springbrook village near the township of Elma, NY and the Village of Springville near Concord, NY and East Concord, NY.

I noticed his wife had a Presbyterian Church affiliation listed on the IA State Census. Any Presbyterian Church records from Hamilton or Sac Counties in IA?

Have you found his obituary yet? His death certificate? Funeral records in IA?Any local muster-in records held at Spragueville or in the locale he mustered out? (not his Federal record). Did he have a Last Will and Testament?

Some secondary document re. his birthplace ... any G.A.R. records in IA? Is there a military museum in IA like there is in NY State which is an archival repository et al ?

Kathleen
