Are you referring to Springwell -or- Springville?

Use this ...

U. S. Town/County Database:
http://resources.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/townco.cgi

Springville, NY will come up either as Erie County, NY or Suffolk County, NY.

Try entering Springwell, without the state's initials and then see where it leads you, at the town locator database, as referenced above.

If you need further help then locate a copy of French's Gazetteer of NY State.
That should be under "google books" on-line, as the publication date has long since expired re. copyright laws.
