My Gt.gndfthr was b: 25 Dec 1847 in Ontario, Wayne County, New York.

At age 16, he was living with his aunt and uncle, assisting them
in farming their land. His uncle, being abusive to him, caused him to run away, change his name to SMITH to avoid pursuit and
enlisted as a drummer boy in the Civil War (1863/4). Following
the war, he returned to New York (Toronto area) to find his family but never found any of them, specifically his sister, according to family sources.

He married Lydia Elizabeth KALLENBAUGH, 1 Apr 1874, supposedly
in Pa. They had 5 children, the first 4 born in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pa. the last (my grandmother) b: in Tarentum, Allegheny Co., Pa. where Lydia was born. Albert was not good
for much, drank a lot and deserted his family to work on international banana boats (for his passage) and the railroad,
off and on. I have the watch he sold to my grandfather, (his
son-in-law) to get drinking money. He d: 29 Jan 1928 in Massillon, Stark County, Ohio where he had lived with his daughter, (my grandmother) who had very little use for him in
general and admitted to not knowing very much about him or his

Have searched relentlessly for 30 years for the biological
surname of this individual. Any advice, suggestions or info
would be deeply appreciated.
