I checked the census for your Francis Steadman/Stutterman. I found him on the 1920 census but he is listed as a female! An error by the census taker. I then attempeted to find his father, David, on earlier census records. The mistake by the 1920 enumerator pales beside what I found earlier! You will have to decide if any of this makes sense. I believe the two census records from 1880 & 1870 are your David`s family. The 1870 is only the info. from the Ancsestry.com index. I`m not able to view their census images & I could not find the record on my 1870 census subscription from HeritageQuest. The census takers obviously had a problem getting correct info. & spelling or perhaps it was the later indexers/transcribers who made the errors. The 1880 is from the transcribed version at http://www.familysearch.org
