I think your ancestor was a son of one of mine. The Steele's migrated from Bavaria in 1747, purchased the Staley Patent, founded Ilion,N.Y. in Herkimer County. The Herkimer County Historical Society has a book on the Steele's as well as the Ilion Public Library. However, since I am in CT, I have not been able to access these books. I hope if you can, you will share with me any information on all George Steele's, Thanks.
