Hi Rick,

Sorry for the delay in answering. Comcast bought our server and I forgot to post my new email address, so I was never notified of your query.

Let me recap:

I was convinced that my Catherine Pease Miner (b. 10 Apr 1826) was the daughter of Daniel & Betsey E. Williams Pease. Their birth years were very close and both resided in Canaan, Columbia Co., NY. However, the data that really solidified my suspicions was finding Catherine’s mother “Betsey Pease” residing with she and her family in 1870.

#3476 Henry V., born 14 October 1825; married Catherine Pease, son of Lodowick Christina Vosburg who married 15 Oct 1829 and settled in Canaan, Columbia Co., New York. He (Lodowick) died at Bennett's Corner, Madison Co., N.Y. 15 September 1859. Source: "Thomas Minor Descendants 1608-1981" by John Augustus Miner, Compiler and Publisher, Trevett, Maine c1981

However, the data you provided (from “Rice”?) indicating she had married someone else convinced me to reevaluate my conclusions. I have since discovered a William and “Betsey” Backus Pease residing near Catherine and Henry in Lenox, Madison Co., NY; William died sometime between the 1840 and 1850 census.

In 1850 a widow “Betsey Pease” is residing with Abraham and Elizabeth Pease Ratmour in Lenox. Elizabeth is the suspect sister to my Catherine and they resided less than four dwellings from the Ratnour homestead in 1870, where at that time, the widow Betsey Pease is then residing with my Henry & Catherine Prase Miner.

I still need a bit more documentation to confirm this is the same Betsey that was residing with Elizabeth and then Catherine, but I feel confident this will get resolved.

However, I have no idea who the parents of William Pease are, so the hunt continues.

CONNECTIONS AND OTHER TIDBITS:

I am still trying to find any connection between John W. and Rebecca and the John and Rebecca buried in Oneida Valley. Another very strange coincidence! I have not heard from Pat Brenden (descendant of John & Rebecca of Oneida Valley) in many years, perhaps she is still monitoring this board and can give us an update?

Also, I cannot help but suspect that there must be a connection between John W. and Rebecca and John M. and Jane, if not just because of the proximity of their dwellings in 1850 (see below).

Sorry to add so many more questions to your query. There were no less than eight John Pease families residing in Oneida and Madison Counties during the 1800’s, five of them were present at any given time.

John & Rebecca _____ Pease - born 1786/87 & 1785
John William & Rebecca Mumbrute Pease - born 1793 & 1805
John M. & Jane Luskum Pease - both born in 1817
John & Laura Perry Pease born - 1819/20 & 1823
John L. & Julia E. Osborn Pease – both born 1831/32
John H. Pease & ????? born Jan 1850
John David & Mary Crow Pease – born 1850/51 & 1855/56
John Edward & Minnie Cleveland Pease – born 1872 & 1871

Again, thanks for the heads up on Catherine.

Also researching: Adle, Barche (Barge), Butler, Chrisman, Church, Clock/Klock, Crizer/Kreuser, Everett(s), Fox, Gardner, Guy, Hyland, Ma’ss, Miner, O’Leary, Pease, Richmond, Robins, Schafer, Vosburg, Zimmer, Zabele.

PS: Below are some Pease family abstracts for Madison County 1840 and 1850. I have some for the later years also which I will be posting on my database at Ancestry soon.

PPS: I noted your list of children for John L. posted on Rootsweb. If David L. Pease is correct that John married Aurelia in 1870, then wouldn’t Ruth Ann be the daughter of Julia? Also, Sarah and Emily are missing from the list of children for John W. & Rebecca. I wonder how the heck he found Rebecca’s maiden name (Mumbrute)!

PPPS: I have long suspected that Alva Pease was the brother of John W.; have you any thoughts on this?

Here are all of the Pease families of Madison County, NY listed on the 1840 census:
