My great-grandfather was named George Quackenbush and he did live in Madison County, NY. I am not familiar with the George Quackenbush you describe, but would venture to guess that there is a connection, since most of the Quackenbushes from upstate NY can be linked. My great-grandfather moved to Madison township at some point in his life, but from what part of upstate I can not tell you.
His parents were named Peter Quackenbush and Anna Steele. This is all the information I have. I know only that my grandfather, Glenn Quackenbush, had many aunts and uncles as the Quackenbush families tended to be large.
I have in my possession "The Quackenbush Family in America" which appears to be fairly accurate. Unfortunately, I have not been able to link Peter and Anna to other family in the region. Many of the Quackenbushes were not counted in early census records as they moved or migrated west, thus their names do not appear in this family reference book.
If I come across Alexander or your George in my search, I will let you know.
