Hello. If their obituaries ever appeared in print they would most likely have been published in the German-American newspaper "The New Yorker Staats-Zeitung". They printed thousands of marriage and death notices, most marriage notices were those of the protestant faith but the death notices covered both catholic and protestant. You can view the original newspaper on film at the New York Public Library or, after the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society's recent move is completed, obtain a copy of any notice in the Staats-Zeitung through the NYG&BS photocopy service. Or you might want to have a look at the following index for another German-American newspaper called "The New Yorker Volks-Zeitung" by purchasing a reprint of the book or view it on film through a local LDS research center: "Index to the deaths found in the New Yorker Volks-Zeitung, 1878-1920". It was basically a socialist newspaper and not nearly as popular as the Staats-Zeitung. There is also a published index for the Staats-Zeitung but it doesn't cover your time range. "Index to Marriage and Death Notices in the New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung 1836-1870" If you go to the following German Geneology group: http://www.germangenealogygroup.com/ you will find Conrad's second marriage listed. Metz - Conrad m. Doll - Anna date: Sep 21 1878 Certificate # 2098, Kings County With that information you can send for their marriage certificate, which might possibly show the names of Conrad's parents and where he was born. Send for the marriage certificate through: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/marriage.shtml Good luck. Notify Administrator about this message?
