Conrad & Barbara (Ziegler) Metz 1870's Brooklyn

Hello. I have never researched in Brooklyn, and could use some tips. I find Conrad Metz with his sons John (Johan) and Christian (by Barbara) in the 1880 census with second wife Anna (Doll) Metz. Barbara (Ziegler) Metz died May 1, 1877 in Brooklyn, and Conrad died in September 7, 1883 in Brooklyn. I'm trying to find the names of each of their parents. The ancestry is from Bavaria, Germany, but I don't know if Conrad and Barbara were the first to come to the U.S., and I don't know where in Bavaria the family came from. This family was German speaking. I'm wondering if there are any German-American newspapers in Brooklyn in that era that might have obituaries. Also, I'm wondering if there are any German heritage societies or history or genealogical societies in the Brooklyn area that might have info on German immigrants from the 1870's & 1880's. Research suggestions welcome.
