Hi. I am trying to locate the residence of my GG Grandfather who lived in Brooklyn and presumably worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard between 1850 and about 1868. His name was Charles Kaighin and was a ship's carpenter. He came from the Isle of Man with his father, also Charles Kaighin (who died in 1855), wife Margaret (Christian) Kaighin. Charles and Margaret had one son, Ebenezer born in England in 1850, and several other children all born in Brooklyn. They were: Margaret Christian, b. 6 Nov 1850 Mona b. 21 Sep 1854 Catherine 22 Sep 1861 Charles Wesley 6 Feb 1863 I found one reference from a 1852 Brooklyn city directory that lists a Charles Kaighin, shipwright, r. Washington nr. Adams. I assume this was him, however he also had a cousin also named Charles Kaighin who I believed lived in Manhattan at that time. I also found a reference in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle in about 1867 for unpaid taxes of a Rev. Charles Kaighan for "house and yard" (no address given). Charles was a Methodist local preacher and may have served at the Bridge Street Methodist Church. Notify Administrator about this message?
