Census help

I think these two might be deForest brothers. Both lived in Brooklyn, Kings County, NY and are five years in age apart. Both are taylors, born in NY. Unfortunately I can only find each man with his family in one census in the entire United States. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks. - Sylvia

1860: Wesley deForest, 30, wife, Ella, 29, son Charles, 8, daughter Elizabeth, 6, and son Frank, 4. I cannot find Wesley nor his family in any other census, so the name deForest has to be misspelled in other censuses. Wesley's son Charles's age misses ggrandfather's by a couple of years. So I doubt Wesley deForest is our Charles' father. Perhaps he is great uncle with ggrandfather's middle name of Wesley coming from him -- Charles Wesley deForest.

1870: James deForest, 35, wife Elizabeth, 33, Mary, 16, Charles, 15, Frank, 10, William, 5. In this census James' son Charles' age matches ggrandfather's age, as we know it to be from later censuses in Iowa and Nebraska. Too there is no other Charles deForest whose name and age matches ggrandfather in any other New York censuses.

We have no trouble finding ggrandfather Charles Wesley deForest once he moved to Iowa as a single man, then from Iowa and to Nebraska and his burial in 1933 North Platte, Nebraska.

Thank you, again.

Sylvia
