There is a Sarah Ellis in the 1930 Brooklyn census, ED416, living (owns) at 153 Covert Street but her son wasn't Harry: head, Sarah ELLIS, 54, widow, first md at 20, NY NY NY, no occupation son, Howard S., 22, single, NY NY NY, mechanic-radio The next line is a Noel Prendergast and he was a boiler maker-factory. I'm sure you know much more about this family than I do since I am not related, but I am reasonably sure the following information is correct. 1900 census, ED320, Brooklyn, renting at 829 Bedford Avenue: head, Seela/e ELLIS, 38, b Sep 1861, md 3 yrs, NY NY NY, machinist wife, Sarah M., 23, b Apr 1877, NY NY NY, no chn, housewife 1910 census, ED575, Brooklyn, owns at 562-17th Street: head, Seele ELLIS, 48, 2nd marriage, 12 yrs this marriage, NY NY NY, merchant-auto supplies shop wife, Sara M., 35, 1st marriage, 2 children, 1 living, NY NY NY son, Seele H. Jr., 2, NY NY NY It appears that Howard's first name was Seele and if he was a Junior then his father's name was Seele Howard. Howard probably preferred to use his middle name. In the 1910 census, Seele said this was his 2nd marriage. His first marriage, to Nellie E. HEDGES, was on 21 Sep 1892 in Manhattan. I cannot locate Nellie's death record so she and Seele may have divorced. A Nellie Ellis married Alphonse J. MUIRE on 3 Oct 1895 in Manhattan. I cannot locate the ELLISes in the 1920 census but a Seele H. ELLIS died 16 Oct 1910 in Queens at age 48. Almost certainly this is Sarah's husband; not too many people named Seele and his age is a perfect match. I cannot locate any marriage of Sarah to Seele, any death of a Sarah Ellis after 1930 that matches but there are several marriages of a Sarah Ellis after 1930. Sarah and Seele's son, Howard/Seele married Lillie M. STOKES on 12 Oct 1934 in Kings County. Notify Administrator about this message?
