ASHBY /MERRITT/METCALF - Sackets Harbor
Posted by: Linda Eastman Date: August 12, 2001 at 10:35:36
  of 1334

Seeking marriages and descendants of four ASHBY children. They came to Sackets Harbor in 1805 from Battle, Sussex, England with their parents William Ashby (who was a miller and an active Dissenter) and Anne (Guy) Ashby. They traveled on the ship Jupiter, surviving its sinking April 6, 1805 off the coast of Newfoundland.

The children were Mary (18), Elizabeth (16), Jane (14), and William (17). Did each of them marry and have descendants?

The ASHBYs settled near or in Sackets Harbor, where their daughter Anne ASHBY, (married 1804 in England) to David MERRITT from Ticehurst, Sussex, England, had settled in 1804. Did David and Anne MERRITT have descendants?

Also in Sackets Harbor settled their daughter Sarah Ashby, who had married Henry METACALF from Battle, Sussex, in 1804, and traveled with him to Sackets Harbor on the Jupiter in 1805. (I have info about their descendants.)
