Lemuel Leach - Woolen Goods-War of 1812
Posted by: Randy Cole Date: July 11, 2000 at 05:21:08

I am seeking info on Lemuel Leach, born 1790 in Vermont, who was engaged in the manufacture of woolen goods during the War of 1812 and furnished soldiers with material for their suits. He was later engaged in the clothing business (I am not certain if this was in Jefferson County) but all of his children were born in Jefferson County in the 1820's (one of whom, was definitely born in Watertown in 1823) and Lemuel Leach did pass away in Jefferson County in the mid 1830's. He left a widow and 4 young sons and his widow, Mary (Polly) Van Lora STRATON, then married my g-g-g-grandfather, Ezra Cole and they lived in LeRay. Their son, George Lester Cole, is my g-g-grandfather and he was born in LeRay in August, 1840.
In addition to ancestral details for Lemuel and Mary, I would like to know when they were married. Some indications are that they were married in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont between 1811 and 1820.
