Found this on "footnote" a website for official documents. I'm trying to correct my Dowen family information, so if anyone has information please contact me at pinezon@nycap.rr.com. Thank you.
State of New York, County of Hamilton:
On this 17th day of June, 1857, personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the county and state afaresaid. Joseph White aged seventyy three years a resident of Saratoga Springs for the last forty years who being duly sworn according to law,says he well knew Francis Dowen for five years or more previous to his death which occured in December 1847 that he assisted in laying out the body and was present at his funeral, saw him buried in the grave yard at the north end of the village of Saratoga Springs. The ministers name who afficiated at the funeral was Elder Esmond, well knows Daniel W. Dowen, now a widow of Saratoga Springs and aged sixty four years, and known as the brother of the said Francis, deceased, and from their features and physignomy has no doubt he was so and also his sisters Mrs. Martha Barker and Mrs. Abigail Groff, has known Catherine Nash to be a resident of Saratoga Springs for ten years past or more, and has no doubt her evidence in regard to same Dowen family is strictly true, should judge Francis Dowen age to have been seventy years or more always considered him much older than myself signed Joseph White.
The above affidavit was sworn and subscribed before me and I certify I know said deponet and that his is a credible person, an I have no interest in the claim to which this is offered as evidence. John B. Felshaw, Justice of Peace.
