Votra/Votery in Genesee Co, 1800s

I am looking for any information on Joseph Votery b. c1829 in Canada. He is listed on the 1880 census as living in Genesee Co, NY with a wife and family. In particular, I would like to find out if the name possibly was Votra and if he had any siblings.
I have an Alexander Votra living with a niece, Mary Allen, in Genesee County in the 1900 census and I think Mary is possibly a daughter of Joseph's. Alexander is my husband's grgreat-uncle and I have hit a brick wall trying to find their mother, their father's name is Peter. All were French-Canadian. I have found 4 siblings, Alexander, Charles, Mary, and Frank. They all settled in northern Indiana.
Any help would be appreciated.
