Hello all,

I am looking for children of Thomas Godfrey and Miriam Wright. One is daughter, Julia Ann Godfrey b. March 26, 1814 in Batavia, NY.

Thomas Godfrey is the son of Richard Godfrey and Mary Newcomb. He is listed in the 1810 Batavia census on same page with brothers, Richard, Elisha, & Newcomb and his parents, Richard Godfrey and Mary (Newcomb) Godfrey.

Thomas Godfrey died before 1820 Census and so did his father, Richard. He was married to Miriam Wright.

Mary Godfrey, widow of Richard, nee Newcomb
Miriam Godfrey, widow of son of Richard, nee Wright
Benjamin Tainter, wife Hannah Norton
Lyman Harrington and other Harrington's are all listed on the same page 1820 Batavia Census page.

According to Chester R. Harrington his family left for MI, Jackson County area in Oct. 1831, there he married Julia Ann Godfrey on Feb. 13, 1833 and lived in Jackson, MI. She is the d/o THOMAS GODFREY AND MIRIAM WRIGHT. THOMAS GODFREY DIED IN GENESEE COUNTY, NY, BEFORE 1831 and MIRIAM (WRIGHT) GODFREY DIED IN JACKSON COUNTY, MI unknown year.

I believe that Benjamin Tainter & Hannah (Norton) Tainter's son, Daniel Tainter left with the Harrington's & Godfrey's and went to Jackson County, MI, he married POLLY GODFREY (1st name may be MARY?) on May 29th, 1832. Ironically her date of birth is the same as Julia Ann Godfrey's but 10 years earlier, March 26th, 1804.

I have believed for along time that Polly and Julia Ann Godfrey were sisters and finding the Harrington's, Julia Ann m. Chester R. Harrington of Batavia and Polly Godfrey m. Daniel Tainter of Batavia all living in Jackson County, MI at the same time furthers my hunch.

Daniel & Polly (Godfrey) Tainter went back to NY, Erie County after their marriage and back to Jackson County, MI in 1845. Daniel Tainter died there in 1846. Polly Godfrey Tainter died Feb. 12th, 1861 in Jackson, MI.

Is anyone else researching the Wright, Harrington & Tainter families of Batavia?

Source:
Title: Portrait and biographical album of Jackson county, Michigan, containing full page portraits and biographical sketches ... portraits & biographies of all the governors of the state and of the presidents of the United States.

Per the book, Chester Harrington and his family started for MI in Oct. 1831, so likely they all came at the same time. Chester & Julia m. Feb. 13, 1833 and lived in Jackson. Polly Godfrey (on daughter Sarah Louise Jefferds death certificate she listed her mother's name as Mary & Polly is a nickname for Mary, but her Bible says "Polly".) m. Daniel Tainter May 29th, 1832 in Washtenaw County, MI, but Jackson & Washtenaw were the same.

"Mrs. Harrington was born in Batavia, Genesee County, N. Y., March 26, 1814, and is a daughter of Thomas and Miriam (Wright) Godfrey, who were natives of New York. The father died in New York and the mother in Jackson. Mrs. Harrington came to Michigan with her mother and other members of the family about 1831, and their experience in the pioneer times was similar to that of their neighbors."

Daniel Tainter had 2 siblings who born on the same day, also. I can't believe Polly & Julia were both b. March 26th 10 years apart!

Miriam Tainter b. August 4th, 1837 and her sister, Nancy Tainter, b. August 4th, 1841 (named for an Aunt Nancy (Tainter) Gallup, wife of John Gallup of Batavia, NY).

Sincerely,
Marilyn
