In a search of http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html for "Michael Carney" +1871 I found an item in the Sat. March 4th edition of the Buffalo Courier newspaper that reads "The funeral of the late Michael Carney will take place on Sunday, at 2pm, from his late residence 166(?)Exchange St. Friends of the family are invited to attend."
The Buffalo City Clerk may have a death record for Michael. See this page for info.: http://tinyurl.com/c8b9ht
You would have to contact them to ask if they would do a search of the week prior to March 4th 1871 for the record since you don`t have an exact date.
