Does anyone know what would have been done with the insane in Cortland Co. in 1830 - 1835? Was there a poorhouse that took care of them, or were they put in an asylum? I am trying to locate information on a female (first name unknown) about 14 - 19 years old. Her parents were William and Elizabeth Johnston and the family lived in Preble, Cortland Co. NY. This girl was shown living with her family on the 1830 census, but no longer with the family from 1835 on.
