You would need to contact the City of Cortland Clerk for any contemporary birth records. Besides the Cortland County Hospital (now Cortland Memorial Hospital) there was the Vernoy Sanitarium (now defunct) that did maternity cases. I am not sure if there were any others. I know Dr. Gibbs had a sanitarium but not sure when that opened. He did deliver babies. and at one time had patients in the sanitarium before all were at the hospital. That may have been too "recent" for your birth.
Though these may have issued birth certificates, the birth had to be filed with the city or county clerk. All the above were in the City of Cortland so you would check there. I think a record would cost about $22. And you need to prove that you are the person whose record it is or the parent or have legal power of attorney for a copy of any birth record. They are very strict due to identity theft problems.
There are no contemporary birth records at the Historical society. You might find a birth anouncement in the Cortland Standard newspaper as that was commonly done. The Historical society may have copies of that, or you could contact the paper.
