civil war regiments - Chesebrough
Posted by: David Hamilton Houseman Date: September 25, 1999 at 13:11:51

My great-great grandfather Wm. Chesebrough (1846-1891) is buried in the City of Ludiington (MI) cemetery. On a recent visit, I discovered a US flag with a GAR medalion by his headstone. The local group which continues the tradition of properly marking Civil War veteran's' graves has a notation he fought for the Union, but no documentation. As far as I can determine, he did not volunteer from MI. The death record for his father, also Wm. Chesebrough, indicates Wm. C. Sr. was born in Cortland Co. NY.
Any leads will be much appreciated, such as information about regiments from that area of NY. Thank you.
