Friends: My ancestor was living in Peru, NY at the time of both the 1840 and 1850 census. He was listed as Joseph Champaign. If anyone has access to the 1850C, would you please look to see where Jospeh was born, please? The US? Canada? Also, that of his wife.
Where were his parents born? The US? Canada? France?
These people later moved across the lake to Bridport, Vermont where they were recorded as Manning, not Champaign or Champagne.
