Hi,

I think I may be a descendent of Jonathan Brown, but I'm not sure. The information we have is that we descend from a Lucy Brown, born in Smithville, Chenango County, NY in about 1834 who married Daniel Porter; their son John W. Porter's 1925 death certificate lists their names as his parents, and they appear in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Sherburne, N.Y., but without Daniel (which leads me to wonder if he was killed in the Civil War). Jonathan Brown having been in the war is unusual, too, for someone first married in 1831 (though that would fit in with him being 40 in the 1850 census).

Any ideas? This has been a roadblock for us, genealogically speaking, for this branch of the family.

Thanks,

Matt
