Sharon,

Thank you so much for the information! Although I cannot
be certain at this point, I believe that Peter Tillou/Tilyou, my great-great-great grandfather who married Anna Canton, could have been the son of Pierre (Joseph) Tillou and Mary Carlisle. My kinsman was born in Dutchess Co. N.Y on 1 Aug. 1771. The dates tie in pretty well...and
the location. This would mean that you and I share common ancestry through Pierre Tillou and Esther Pelletreau. Peter and Anna had 10 children: Rueben, Rebecca, Betsy, James, Sally, Hannah, Jonathan, Catharine, Carlile (my great-great grandfather), Anna and Emeline.

About Pierre Joseph's second wife. Could her name have been Betsy Steele or McDowell? Another Tillou Descendent has her listed as P.Joseph's wife. She might be the mother of Levi, Vincent, Esther, John and Tamar? I'm just trying
to figure out where Betsy fits into all of this.

Also, Is your great grandmother the same Flora Tilyou who was born 3 Feb. 1886 to Jason and Rose Kibbe? I'm trying to find out where all of these Flora Tilyous are coming from! My grandmother was Flora Alta Tilyou [b.16 Sept. 1897] I also found an Alta Tillou listed on the SS death index--issued from the state of New Jersey.

I'm sorry to bombard you with all of these questions. There
are so many Tillous/Tilyous/Tillyous, and I keep finding
the same names listed under all three spellings. Do you know who changed the name from Tillou to Tilyou? My grandmother had said it was her great-great grandfather... which might mean Pierre (Joseph). I noticed that most of his second marriage offspring are listed as Tilyous. I would appreciate any light you might be able to shed on any of the Tillou family tree.

This family believed in keeping certain names alive. My
uncle (father's brother) is also named Carlyle (updated spelling), and my sister is the feminine version...Carla.

Thank you again for your time and patience!

Juli
