I believe the pioneer of the Tillou [orginal spelling] family in America was Pierre Tillou of Ste Nazaire, Santonge, France a Heguenot seaman who fled from France to England in 1681 and naturalized there on 21 Mar 1682 with his kinswoman Madelon Bouquet [possibly his wife ?]. On a passenger list of the ship "Mary and Ann" which sailed from London 19 Apr 1700 - arrived Hampton, Virginia 23 Jul 1700 appears the name Pierre Tillou. In New York City in 1705 his name appears as a witness to a will. He had two children that I know of [maybe more]: Vincent naturalized 3 Jul 1701 [b. France] who married Elizabeth Vignaud and Pierre [Peter] born abt 1700 who married Esther Pelletreau [my line]. [Pierre] Joseph Tillou son of Pierre and Esther married Mary Carlisle and settled in Clinton Corners, Dutchess, NY and had a son Carlisle [a twin]. Is this your line? Their other children were Joseph Jr., William, Peter, Jonathan and twins Carlisle and Elizabeth. [Pierre] Joseph married a second time [no record of her name] and had five more children Levi, Vincent, Esther, John and Tamar. They moved to North Norwich, Chenango, NY about 1801 where he died in 1812. John Tilyou is my ancestor and North Norwich is where I live now. Hope some of this fits for you. I have more info on the Tilyou line including George who practically owned Coney Island in NYC. Hope to hear from you again.
