I am attempting to trace the family of Benjamin Potter, his wife Harriett Lyons, and their daughter Mary Potter (1839-1922) in the town of Oxford, New York. While I haven't been able to pin them down definitively (since I don't know for certain their religious identity, so don't know which church records to search), I have found some interesting information in older documents, obtained through the American Baptist Historical Society.
One bit of information is that a Rev. William T. Potter served as pastor of the Oxford Baptist Church from 1857-1864. Another is that a woman identified only as Mrs. C.W. Potter of the same church died in 1916.
Does anyone know anything concerning these two Potters? Do we know, for example, if Rev. William T. Potter was a local boy or if he moved from out of town? If you know anything about the church in question, can you tell me if it still exists in Oxford, and if the records exist to have a record search done? I don't know if either or both of these people might be related, but I am hoping they are clues in resolving long-term mysteries.
Any help you can provide is appreciated.
