Families moving to Chenango Cnty

Many members of the Alcott family moved from Conn. to Chenango County in the early 1800's too, and we also wonder about the reason. (My wife is an Alcott.)

Was the war of 1812 a factor? We have found out that New York acquired substantial Indian lands about then. Did the State promote migration to the area in order to stop the English and Canadian's???

Anybody have any more thoughts or info on this?
