Hi,
I am looking for an ancestor of Oliver Blanchard, (Oliver was b. Chemung Cty, c. 1832, and died at Antietam in 1862.) The ancestor I am trying to locate was known as Great Chief Whiteface from a Northeastern or New England, native American settlement. I was told by Oliver's granddaughter, my wife's grandmother, that he was a Chief Sachem, but she wasn't sure from what nation. Possibly Iroquois, or Wampanoag, (also referred to as Massasoit). Any one who can steer me in the right direction???
I would be eternally greatful!
