The MARTIN & THOMAS families were in the Dunkirk area in the early 1850s.
I have MARTIN siblings James b 1824, John b 1811, Ellen-Eliz "Betsy" b 1809, Bridget b 1814, Margaret b 1821, emigrating with spouses and children from Garrane co Kerry Ireland c 1850 thru Quebec Canada.
James stopped in Dunkirk, NY on his way to Marshall MI, had two children Mary 1854 and John 1856 there.
Ellen-Eliz or "Betsey" married a William Thomas who also stopped in the Dunkrik area on the way to Marshall, Mi. They had a daughter Mary b 1849 Ireland d 1879 Marshall.Bridget b 1814 hadnt married d 1877 in Marshall. We think William died in the Dunkirk area, he never made it to Marshall.
John went right to Marshall as far as I know. John had Mary b 1842 Ireland, Catherine b Quebec 1848, Bridget 1852 in Marshall, Margaret 1854 Marshall.
Siblings John, James, Bridget and Ellen-Eliz are all on the 1860 census for Marshall. I dont have spouses names, they seemed to be both widowed by 1860. I dont know what happened to Margaret.
Parents of the siblings: James Martin, Catherine Moriarty all of Garrane, Co Kerry, west of Mt Brandon on the Dingle Peninsula.
They were in Dunkirk in between census years have been unable to locate any documentation of thier time in Chautaqua County... if anyone has any connections with this family please email me!
