Can anyone on this forum help me find information about Marjorie Irene GEORGE, born on 9 April 1922 in Silver Creek, Chautauqua County? In particular I am interested in finding out the names of her parents and if she had siblings.
I had hoped to find all that information in the 1930 census but unfortunately for me Marjorie is recorded in the census as living with an uncle and aunt (Frank and Mae/May/Mary Bark) in Lorain, OH. Was she there on holiday? Had her parents died? Were they too poor (on account of the depression?) to support her? At present I do not know.
Whatever the reason, various indications suggest that Marjorie continued to live in Lorain County. A friend there who did some research for me found a wedding announcement there for a Marjorie George with a John Weekly.
They seemingly divorced later because Marjorie married my father, Daniel O’Rourke, on 17 July 1956. He was living in Elyria, OH at the time. They married in Winchester, VA.
Marjorie and my father went to live in Hamburg, near Buffalo, NY in 1961. They spent the rest of their lives there, as far as I can make out. Both are now dead. Marjorie’s SSDI is 287-16-2496 and that of my father is 297-32-9753.
Researching Marjorie's aunt Mae revealed that she was born in Pittsburg on 26 February 1871. Possibly Marjorie's mother was born there too.
The reason for my interest in Marjorie George is as follows: My father divorced my mother when I was a child and emigrated from Ireland to America in 1954. At that point he broke off all contact with his family and friends at home. It is only now that, thanks to Internet and all of the genealogical information readily available, I have found his trace and that I am trying to piece together a picture of his life in America.
As far as I can make out my father and Marjorie had no children. That being so and with both of them now dead, my only hope of learning about his life in America is to find relatives of Marjorie who might be able to tell me something about her life with my father. I realise that it is a long shot, but “nothing dared, nothing gained". If Marjorie had family in Silver Creek it would have been natural for her to go and visit them regularly when she moved to the Buffalo area in 1961.
Thank you most sincerely for any guidance or help that you can give me and I look forward very much to your reply,
Eamann O Ruairc (this is the Irish spelling of "O'Rourke")
