The Ellicottville Post, Oct. 23,1907.
Anna F. Utley, daughter of Rodney and Electa Utley, and wife of James H. Phillips, departed this life, Sunday, Oct. 13th , aged 25 years, one month, and 15 days. The deceased was born and lived in East Otto, and had a wide circle of friends and relatives.
She was married to James H. Phillips, Nov. 30th, 1899. She leaves to mourn their loss, the husband, four small children , a mother, three brothers and a half brother and sister. All the brothers except the youngest, Lucian, are in the Far West and so were unable to be with her to bid her the last farewell.
Owing to the fact that the pastor was absent at conference, the funeral was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Askey of the Methodist Episcopal church of Cattaraugus, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. Mrs. Phillips was a devoted mother and loving wife, and will be long remembered for her cheerful and friendly ways, though she was failing for a year or more, still she kept hopeful to the last and this very hopefulness and courage deceived her friends so that her end came as a shock to us all. The bereaved husband and family have the sincere sympathy of their many friends and neighbors."
