Need Help With Declaration for Naturalization
Posted by: John Dzamba (ID *****1292) Date: May 15, 2005 at 07:51:56

Hi Folks,

I am trying to track down my great grand-father's Declaration form.

I talked to someone at a courthouse and they said that a person could fill out the declaration in one county, and it need not be the same place as where they officially become naturalized - this because the declaration was made a year or two before becoming naturalized.

In 1900 he was naturalized, and so my guess is his declaration was in 1898 give or take a year. In 1898 he lived in Limesone, NY. I would like to check to see if his declaration might be in Cattaragus County.

Could someone please help direct me on how to check to see if it is here - is the courthouse the best place to check or are there alternative places? I had once used microfiche to lookup birth vitals while visiting my folks in NY - are naturalization records also on microfiche?

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks!
John
