Martin Leach (1803-1880) was born in New York. He married Esther Phillips (1801-1879), daughter of Abiathar Phillips, Sr. They had three children. Two were born in New York: Abiathar Leach (c1830-1856) and Marilda U. Leach (1832-1898). About 1835, the family moved to Michigan, where a third child, Lyman Leach (1843-1916) was born..
I have found quite a bit of information about the Phillips family in various books, census records, etc. However, Martin Leach seems to be a dead end at the moment.
I can find no record of the Leach family in Cattaraugus County. There is a Martin MEACH in the 1830 census who lives next door to Abiathar Phillips in Great Valley, Cattaraugus County. Despite the apparent spelling error, based on the ages of the residents of the household, I think this might be Martin Leach’s family.
I am descended from Martin Leach and Esther Phillips. Does anyone have any information about the Leach family in Cattaraugus?
