I just want to notify people that cemeteries in New York City are seeking out descendants of persons interred in their cemetery and sending out bills for outstanding care fees plus perpetual care. In my case I received a bill for $4000 for a plot that was purchased by a great-great-grandparent in 1860! If they had asked me for a reasonable contribution toward perpetual care I might have paid but they don't do that, they simply claim that you are the person responsible and hit you with a bill for big money and then harass you for payment. I wonder if the superintendents of these cemeteries have all of their outstanding bills paid up on all of the plots once owned by their great-great-grandparents!

So...for anyone reading this message, I would be very careful with requesting an interment record from any cemetery in New York City and/or posting information on where an ancestor is interred.

Needless to say, this episode has had a chilling effect on my research.
