Flo, thank you for your help and encouragement. I live in Texas so checking NY records is a bit of a stretch. As far as my mother, I did find her in the 1930 census and it listed her by her real name, Eleanor Kimble. She is 5 years old and listed as a border at that home in Mass. Is there anyone you know that may be able to check the 1925 police census for the Bronx? If I can get better information on her brothers and sisters I may be able to then locate birth, marriage and death records for them and possibly find living relatives.

I know it will be difficult. Looking over my notes I have that my mothers adoptive family told her that her parents and siblings were all killed. Then they told her that her parents were shot as spies and the rest of the children adopted out. Then they told her that she was put up for adoption because she was defective. My mother had polio.
