Geoff, I`m glad the census info. was useful. I thought to take a look at the 1850 census & am glad I did. The Scott family was quite prolific, not to say confusing!! There were 16 male Scotts in Friendship on the 1850 index, most were heads of households. The older males were born in NH; including a Justus & a Chester. I only looked at some of them but will give you the info. for Waitstill & Chauncey Scott who were living next door to each other in 1850, probably the same farm. It clarifies who Anson Scott`s parents were.
1850 census, NY state, Allegany Co., Friendship, pg 65.
Waitstill Scott, age 76, b. NH., farmer
all but Waitstill b. in NY
Chauncey Scott,44, b. NY, farmer
Sophia,43, unknown birthplace
all children b. NY
