Hi, I am not related to this family, but I hope that this might help.
Going through the Albany City Directories on Ancestry, I can tell you that Assunta Mele died on January 26, 1946. Roberto is alive at the time of the 1927 directory's publication, but then there is a big gap between directories that are available online. You do know, however, from the 1930 census that he had died by the time the census was taken, making his death sometime between 1927-1930.
If you live in the Albany area, I would suggest going to the library and looking through the city directories between 1927-1930 to establish a date of death for Roberto, and then pull Roberto's and Assunta's obituaries from the newspaper microfilm that the library has. If you don't live in the area (and sorry, I did grow up in the area but now live in the South or I would help you), you may be able to get a library staff member (either the Public Library of the State Library) to assist you, or you may be able to get the appropriate materials through interlibrary loan.
Next, I would order death certificates. If luck is with you, they will include names of parents, which are supposed to be filled in (although they are sometimes left blank if the informant doesn't know). Even if you are unable to establish an exact date of death for Roberto, you can still order a death certificate for him, it is just more expensive for the Department of Health to search the 4 years they would need to for Roberto (1927, 1928, 1929, 1930) than if you had an exact date or even could narrow it down to 3 years. Here is the contact information, with instructions and the form you need to fill out:
Anyway, apologies if you have this already. Hope this helps!
