Per New York Times obit of 4/23/1932:

ALBANY, N.Y., April 22. -- Alexander Mcbride, veteran Albany newspaper man, dies yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry T. Schermerhorn, at Hawthorne, N.J. He was 96 years old. Mr. McBride was born in Albany Nov. 22, 1835. He was a printer before he served in the Civil War. After the war he was a writer on politics for the Albany Evening Journal and later became night editor of The Argus, a position he held for twenty years. He retired when he was 80 years old and made his home with Mrs. Schermerhorn and another daughter, Mrs. Howard Birch of Alplaus. Three daughters and a granddaughter, Miss Marton Stone O'Brien of Boston, survive.
