Dodie, I think I found Emma Woods. I thought to check the NNYLN site which has a newspaper database of Northern NY publications. In the Elizabethtown Post for July-Sept. 1887 there is a marriage notice for George Knights of Crown Point & Emily Wood of Port Henry. They were married on Aug. 14th, 1887 at the Methodist parsonage in Crown Point by the Rev. C. L. Hager. No parents listed but the 1880 census has an Emily Wood, age 16, in Moriah which is about 2 miles from Port Henry. She is with her mother Belle Roberts & stepfather Frank & brothers William Wood, 10 & Francis Roberts, 1 month. In 1870 there is an Emily Woods, 6, in Moriah whose mother is Bell. I`ll type that one below. This must be your Emma. You can check the newspaper database here: http://news.nnyln.net/ Use quote marks around names to search.
