Looking for James Clark, b.1869 Winchester, who immigrated to Australia

I am searching for the USA origins of my ancestor James Clark. He was born approx. 1869, and immigrated to Australia sometime in the late 1800s and married there, and died there – Grafton, NSW on 28 April 1913. All we know of him, from his marriage certificate, is:
•       He was born in “Winchester, USA”
•       His father’s name was John Butler Clark
•       His mother’s name was Annie Jane Owens (I have no birth, death or marriage dates or locations for either of them)
•       By the time of John’s marriage in Australia, 23 January 1904, both his parents were listed as deceased
•       His father’s occupation was listed as an engineer
•       James’ occupation also listed as an engineer
There are at least 10 Winchesters in the US that I can find – hence I shall post to each State’s Gen Forum. Any help, comments, clues greatly appreciated.
