Hello:

I am not related to either of the people. This is just some random census info you might want to checkup on.

Stockton is in San Joaquin county in California. In the 1860 census for San Joaquin in Elkhorn I found the following:

J. North age 32 born in Ohio and a farmer. Shows no family.
William Nichols age 26 born Ohio and a Farmer. Shows no family.

There is another William H. Nichols 43 from Massachusets also a farmer with no family.

Then in Nevada I find on the 1870 census for Lander County, Garden Valley, a W. Nichols age 35 from Ohio no family, and a farmer. Age would be about right for the above.

I didn't find them on the 1862 Nevada Territorial Census. They might have not made it up to Nevada at that time.

Hope these clues might get you started in the right direction if they are your people.

Regards, Arline in Nevada
