Are you in luck. Charles and Mahulda are my great grandparents. So here goes! Charles Amick was born in Russelville, WV in April 1861 and died Dec 7, 1938 in Huron, SD. He had an identical twin brother named Ruckland, and the twins were the last children born to Samuel Amick-I forget his wife's name. Sam (circa 1807-1890) was a widower for many years-he lived into his 80s. His wife had died in a drowning accident when she tried to rescue on of the young children. Charles died of pneumonia while living with my Grandmother Elsie Amick Tanger. All my father, who is still living, remembers is Charles coughing up blood not long before his death. Mahulda Nutter was a second cousin to Charles and they were married in WV. They moved west with several children in tow, and during their wonderings had several more children, before settling in SD around the turn of the century. My grandmother, Elsie Mable Amick (1897-1973) was born in Iowa. Mahulda died of a stroke in 1933. She was 63. My father was at her house (he was 8) and they sat her up in bed so she could see out the window. The weather was very cold. Mahulda was a large woman, and was quite a bit taller than Charles. My Father remembers Mahulda pretty well because he recieved several, no doubt well deserved, thrashings from her. Several times cousins would be nearby urging her on saying "he deserves it grandma". My father is still a little steamed. Anyway their children were: Ira was born about 1884 and lived into his 80s. He was married twice as his first wife died in 1918 of Spanish flu. Minnie-she married someone named Otto Strong. She died about 1948 of a stoke. She was a stockily built, but very good looking. Elmer (1889-1983) Was a very hard worker-he raised hogs and cattle-and his wife, Clara Cruise, had inherited a lot of land from her uncle. Together they had a small country-about 8-10 sections. He was a very sucessful farmer. They had 2 children, Owen and Roland. Grace (1891-1985) was a very squat woman with very large hands. She married Scott Phillips. Their son, Laurence, is alive and in his 90s. Carrie died in her 70s. Elsie-My grandmother John was retarded and was institutionalized for many years in Redfield SD-died in 1967. Victor was a WWI vet and died of cancer at the VA hospital in Minnepolis, MN in 1968. Ethan was born about 1904 and was the first SD traffic fatality of 1982. Whew! That's about all my father and I remember. A lot is approximate, but hopefully you may find it interesting. I used to never write anything down, but now nearing 50, I've leaned my lesson.
