Thank you so much! Every little bit helps.

Charles Goodspeed Nute was my 3rd great grandfather.

Charles Goodspeed Nute was born at Campbelltown, Steuben County, New York, one of nine children. It's believed he then moved to Fleming County, Kentucky where he married Charlotte Evans. She died young at 26 and then Charles married Elizabeth Markwell. He lived for a time with his son Charles William Nute, Sr. in Maitland, Missouri after Elizabeth passed away and then he moved to Orlando, Florida where he passed away 25 May 1886 of yellow fever.

His middle name, Goodspeed, came from the man his grandmother married, John Goodspeed.

Charles Goodspeed Nute's father was Obed Nute, Jr. and he (Obed) served in the War of 1812 as a 2nd lieutenant. He died during that conflict and his grave is unknown. His (Obed's) wife, Rhoda Stevens, applied for and received a widowers war pension of $58.50 in 1813.

Charles Goodspeed Nute's tombstone is still readable in the Greenwood Cemetery in downtown Orlando, Florida.
