I am a decendant of James Bunker (born 1628 in Slapton, Devonshire, England) and a women whose first name was Sarah. Her last name may have been Nute or it may have been Pepperell. According to the Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire her name was Nute, but Edward C. Moran Jr., compiler of the Dover Branch of the Bunker Genealogy was unable to verify this by correspondence with the authors of this work, Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1983; originally published in 5 parts, 1928-39, in Portland, Maine).

The Nute family structure is described at p. 515. That James Bunker (alt. spelling Buncker)'s will was witnessed by three men named Pepperell caused Col. Paul Bunker to speculate that Sarah's last name may have been Pepperell, according to the Bunker Genealogy. Nevertheless, recent compilations of marriage information continue to say James Bunker's wife Sarah's maiden name was Nute. Clarence Almon Torrey, New England Marriages Prior to 1700 (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1985) lists, at p. 118, James Bunker's marriage to Sarah Nute ca. 1650-70 in Dover, Strafford Co., New Hampshire. According to one record Sarah Nute's father was James NUTE (AFN: 1R76-C2) born 1621 in Tiverton, England; died bef 1699 in Dover Strafford, NH
